Introducing Pottery Classes at Wheel & Slab!

When we set out to open Wheel & Slab, we did so with the intention of creating a new learning experience for the clay community in Rochester, NY.

Our pottery club, or social club if you will, would give members of the community a place to learn, experience, and enjoy making ceramics in an stress-free environment. A place where they could enjoy the company of like-minded individuals, and break away from the daily grind of work and life.

Response to our club has been fantastic, and exactly what we had hoped for. Membership continues to increase, with new members commenting on the unique structure, helpfulness in making friends, and the need for fun activities in the area.

So why are we offering pottery classes then?

When developing the club experience, Danielle and I drew on our past experience teaching for ideas and inspiration. We had aimed to create a space and experience that was unstructured, and self-guided, because not everyone needed or responded well to a syllabus. Sometimes, a person just needs some time and space, and a supportive place where they can work through a problem at their own pace.

Our club aimed to provide that experience, and it has done a great job of that so far. But, there are also people who like that structure, and enjoy a syllabus and more guidance. That is where the pottery class or course format excels, and why we are excited to offer pottery classes to the Rochester, NY Community.

What classes are offered at your pottery studio?

As of today’s date, we are offering one 8-week pottery course at our studio. This introductory course provides an introduction to wheel throwing, and hand building. And includes a mix of short lectures, fun projects, and unique challenges to help stretch our students and create an engaging experience.

Back in September of 2022 we wrote about 3 of the Best Places to Take a Pottery Class in Rochester, NY. And today we are excited to join those studios in providing classes, and fun learning experiences.
