More about Ceramic Artist, Celia Feldberg
Celia Feldberg is a Philadelphia-based artist, currently a resident at The Clay Studio of Philadelphia. Originally born in England and raised in Massachusetts, Celia received her BFA in Ceramics from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston in 2019. She has since developed a distinct style of illustrated earthenware pottery, which she slip-decorates and carves using the sgraffito technique to tell stories through imagery. Her charming, narrative-driven pottery often features anthropomorphized animals, drawing inspiration from classic storybooks and animated films.
In her artist statement, Celia explains, "I make earthenware pottery which I slip and sgraffito to tell stories... I strive for my pottery to be touchable and practical, and for the illustrations to be joyous, or at least comforting in some way." She often reflects on daily experiences and humorously turns them into artwork, creating pieces that are simultaneously niche and relatable. Her work is known for its soft colors and sensitive linework, which evoke the warmth and nostalgia of fond memories.
We’re especially excited to host Celia at Wheel & Slab because we’ve been captivated by her ability to bring storytelling and functionality together in her pottery. Her work has a joyous, uplifting quality that invites people to find personal connections within her designs. We want others to experience her process firsthand and gain insight into how she makes her pieces so full of charm and character.
